Quality of Work Life of Workforce during Pandemic in the Indian context

CHAPTER-1: INTRODUCTION
This pandemic has affected the entire world in a way that none of us would have ever dreamt of. It has changed our personal and professional lives, be it shopping, studying or working, everything has now been shifted to online mode.
For employees, this Pandemic has brought a great deal of uncertainties. There are new norms for everything, from working style to travelling. And this has led to a lot of disturbance in their work life as well as personal life. The most affected employees are those who are not very technology friendly or are of certain age, as it is difficult for them to deal with all the new tools and technologies used to facilitate this work from home culture. Already there are so many depressing news spread about deaths and illness caused due to Pandemic, difficulty to learn these new tools and technologies are simply adding up to their struggle to survive in this difficult time.
The other bad news that this pandemic has brought with it is economy plunge. The economy was already going through a rough patch before and when the pandemic hit the surface of our country, the Indian government imposed a complete lockdown in the first half of 2020, which lead to further deterioration of the economic structure of our country. Businesses were in huge losses due to which they started to downsizing their workforce. There were several companies which started making pay cuts from the employee’s renumerations in order to deal with their losses, which caused a lot to anxiety and job insecurity amongst employees of all the levels. The big brands were firing their executive level employees and several small firms went out of business due to this pandemic. Overall, this pandemic has caused a huge disruption in the work life of the employees. Some even say that this pandemic has caused more harm to the world than the great recession of 2008.
