Abstract

The life insurance sector plays a vital role in providing financial security, long-term savings, and risk protection to individuals and families. With the entry of private insurance companies, the Indian insurance industry has become highly competitive, encouraging innovation, improved customer service, and diverse insurance products. This study presents a comparative analysis of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), HDFC Life Insurance, and Tata AIA Life Insurance by evaluating customer satisfaction, policy benefits, premium affordability, claim settlement efficiency, service quality, and digital services. A descriptive research design was adopted using both primary and secondary data collected from 100 policyholders through a structured questionnaire. For analytical purposes, One-Way ANOVA was applied to compare customer satisfaction levels among the three insurance companies. The findings indicate that while LIC continues to enjoy strong customer trust and market reputation, HDFC Life Insurance and Tata AIA Life Insurance perform well in innovation, digital services, and customer support. The study concludes that continuous service improvement, transparent claim settlement, and customer-centric policies are essential for enhancing competitiveness and customer satisfaction in the life insurance industry.

The life insurance industry plays a vital role in providing financial security, risk protection, and long-term financial planning for individuals and families. The comparative analysis of LIC, HDFC Life Insurance, and Tata AIA Life Insurance reveals that each organization possesses distinct strengths that contribute to customer satisfaction and industry growth. LIC continues to maintain strong customer trust because of its long-established reputation, financial stability, and extensive market presence, while HDFC Life Insurance and Tata AIA Life Insurance distinguish themselves through innovation, digital services, customer-focused products, and efficient service delivery. The One-Way ANOVA confirms significant differences in customer satisfaction, claim settlement services, and customer service quality among the selected insurance companies. Customers consider trust, service quality, premium affordability, claim settlement efficiency, policy benefits, and digital accessibility as the primary factors influencing their insurance preferences. Continuous technological innovation, transparent communication, efficient customer support, and customer-centric business practices will further strengthen customer satisfaction and organizational competitiveness. Overall, both LIC and the selected private insurance companies make significant contributions to the development of the Indian life insurance industry by providing reliable financial protection and continuously improving service standards.
