Abstract

Schedule generation in academic institutions is a challenging optimization task with many variables, including faculty availability, classroom distribution, and assignment of courses. Manual and conventional approaches used in the past have been inadequate and inefficient, often causing clashes. An innovative AI-Based Timetable Generator has been suggested in this paper as a solution to these problems by using techniques such as genetic algorithms and machine learning methods. It is effective in ensuring that a conflict-free timetable, efficient resource management, and scalability are achieved. The model proposed here describes the process of timetable formation as a problem in constraint optimization. Hard constraints (no overlap between classes, teachers' schedules, and room allocations) have to be always fulfilled, but soft constraints (preference for time slots, balancing load, and breaks) should be optimized for better quality of schedule. The AI engine starts with the generation of the initial population of timetables and then improves them via application of evolutionary algorithms. This system has been developed as a web-based application where the interface along with the backend and the AI optimizer have been incorporated into the design. Real-time timetable creation and scalability are two features offered by this system that can help large educational institutions manage their timetables effectively. Results obtained from experimental studies show that this approach is better than conventional approaches. In conclusion, the AI-Based Timetable Generator shows how Artificial Intelligence techniques can be effectively used to solve real-life scheduling problems and provides an intelligent and efficient solution for today’s educational institutions.

Full Article/Conclusion

The proposed AI-Based Timetable Generator can be considered a powerful tool in solving the issue of timetable generation in educational institutions. By using the principles of Artificial Intelligence and the Genetic Algorithm, this system effectively generates optimized and conflict-free timetables. The experimental results show that the proposed model successfully solves the problem of scheduling, allowing the generation of efficient timetables with a minimum number of scheduling conflicts. This method demonstrates its superiority over conventional solutions as it is more accurate, flexible, scalable, and efficient than traditional manual or rule-based solutions.   As for future improvements, it is possible to consider adding various machine learning techniques to predict and adaptively generate timetables. In addition, the development of a mobile app can help make the process more accessible to users. Moreover, the system should be integrated with various academic platforms for attendance tracking and student data handling. The use of dynamic scheduling functions can assist in handling unpredictable changes and ensuring timely modifications. Thus, the use of cloud technology can help enhance the efficiency of the developed algorithm.
