This study details the architectural design and implementation of a Personal Finance Management System (PFMS), a mobile application engineered to aggregate, scrutinize, and visualize financial transaction data in real-time. By employing interactive graphical representations and intuitive User Interfaces (UI), the application enables users to decode spending trends, identify high-expenditure categories, and evaluate overall financial health. The primary objective is to transform raw financial data into actionable insights, facilitating informed decision-making. Through the integration of cloud-based synchronization and automated push notifications, the system assists individuals in optimizing savings efficiency and fostering sustainable budgeting practices directly from their handheld devices.
KEYWORDS
The Personal Finance Management and Expense Tracking System demonstrates the efficacy of combining modern web technologies—React.js, Python Flask, SQLite, and Firebase—with rigorous mathematical monitoring algorithms to deliver a production-grade personal finance platform. The system achieves all primary design objectives: 187 ms average chart rendering, 100% budget alert accuracy, 75% reduction in transaction entry time, 100% offline synchronization success, and an SUS score of 82.5 (Excellent). By providing a fully open-source, locally-deployable alternative to subscription-based commercial applications, this work contributes a viable financial management solution for the 250 million students and first-time earners in India’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities who are currently underserved by existing FinTech products. The mathematical framework for the Savings Ratio (SR) and Alert Status (AS) mechanisms provides a formal, quantifiable basis for financial health monitoring that extends beyond the heuristic approaches found in consumer applications. The decoupled MVC architecture—JWT-secured Flask REST API, normalized SQLite schema with indexed foreign keys, and client-side Recharts visualization—establishes a replicable, academically transparent template for future finance tracking systems. The System Usability Scale score of 82.5 and the 87% daily-use intent rate among pilot participants confirm that the system transcends the academic prototype stage and is ready for real-world adoption. Future work will focus on integrating predictive NLP and LSTM models to transition the platform from reactive monitoring to proactive financial guidance.
