Real-time multimedia services such as interactive gaming, video surveillance, video-on-demand and video conferencing have gained significant popularity in recent years. These services are increasingly being integrated into diverse domains, including home automation, robotics and self-driven automobiles, forming a core component of emerging 5G technology. However, providing sufficient bandwidth to support such multimedia applications over Ad Hoc networks remains a challenging task due to shared channel transmission and limited bandwidth availability. To address these challenges and improve network performance, novel architectures—namely Multi Interface Multi Channel - Bandwidth Aggregation (MIMC-BA), Multi Interface Multi Channel - Simultaneous Receive Transmit (MIMC-SRT) and Multi Interface Multi Channel - Parallel Transmission (MIMC-PT) have been proposed and implemented using the QualNet 6.1 network simulator. Their performance is compared against conventional Single Interface Single Channel (SISC) and Multi-Interface Multi-Channel (MIMC) architectures in Ad Hoc networks.

This paper proposes three novel Multi-Interface Multi-Channel (MIMC) architectures, namely Multi-Interface Multi-Channel Bandwidth Aggregation (MIMC-BA), Multi-Interface Multi-Channel Simultaneous Receive Transmit (MIMC-SRT), and Multi-Interface Multi-Channel Parallel Transmission (MIMC-PT), to enhance multimedia communication over wireless Ad Hoc networks. The performance of the proposed architectures is evaluated and compared with conventional Single Interface Single Channel (SISC) and Multi-Interface Multi-Channel (MIMC) architectures using AODV, AOMDV-SP, and AOMDV-MP routing protocols in the QualNet 6.1 simulation environment. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed architectures significantly improve network performance by effectively utilizing and aggregating the bandwidth available across multiple non-overlapping channels. Among the proposed schemes, MIMC-PT achieves the highest throughput and lowest end-to-end delay by dynamically selecting idle interfaces for data transmission, while MIMC-SRT minimizes self-interference through simultaneous reception and transmission on different interfaces. The proposed architectures consistently outperform conventional SISC and MIMC networks in terms of throughput and delay performance. The enhanced bandwidth utilization, reduced network congestion, and improved Quality of Service (QoS) make the proposed architectures well suited for bandwidth-intensive real-time multimedia applications, including interactive gaming, video surveillance, video-on-demand, and video conferencing. The results indicate that the proposed MIMC architectures provide an effective and scalable solution for supporting next-generation high-data-rate wireless communications and emerging 5G-enabled multimedia services over Ad Hoc networks.
