Collaborative coding platforms that operate in real-time are crucial for development teams and educational settings that are distributed across various locations. This paper introduces CollabCode, a web-based code editor that allows multiple users to edit and run code at the same time. The architecture of the system is a hybrid that combines WebSocket communication with peer-to-peer connections based on WebRTC to provide low-latency synchronization. By integrating with the Judge0 API, the platform enables real-time code execution during shared sessions. Experimental findings indicate that the system ensures effective synchronization and delivers a responsive experience for users, making it ideal for uses like remote learning and technical interviews.
KEYWORDS
The proposed CollabCode system is a web-based collaborative coding platform designed to allow multiple users to edit and execute code together in real time. The system uses modern communication technologies to provide fast synchronization, smooth interaction, and an efficient collaborative experience for users. The developed platform successfully maintains shared code updates and provides a responsive environment for collaborative programming activities. Integration of the Judge0 API enables users to compile and run code directly within the platform, improving overall usability and functionality. The system includes several useful features such as real-time code sharing, multi-user collaboration, instant updates, and online code execution. These features make the platform suitable for educational purposes, remote teamwork, coding practice, and technical discussions. However, the current system still has some limitations when handling a large number of users and more complex synchronization situations. Future improvements can focus on increasing scalability, improving performance, enhancing security, and implementing better synchronization methods to provide a more reliable collaborative environment. Overall, CollabCode provides an effective and practical solution for real-time collaborative coding and demonstrates the importance of modern web technologies in supporting online software development and learning environments.
