The event management industry has emerged as one of the fastest-growing and highly competitive service sectors, driven by the increasing demand for corporate events, weddings, exhibitions, conferences, entertainment programs, and social gatherings. In today’s dynamic business environment, event management is no longer limited to organising functions but has evolved into a professionally managed industry that requires strategic planning, operational efficiency, effective coordination, and customer-oriented service delivery. The success of an event largely depends on the ability of event managers to efficiently integrate planning, logistics, budgeting, communication, and execution activities within limited time and resources. As customer expectations continue to rise, event organisations are increasingly focusing on professional operational practices to ensure smooth event execution and superior service quality. This research paper critically examines the role of operations management in improving the overall efficiency and performance of the event management industry. The study focuses on major operational dimensions such as planning, logistics coordination, resource allocation, workforce management, scheduling, vendor coordination, risk management, and execution control. The research aims to analyse how systematic operational practices contribute to successful event delivery, customer satisfaction, profitability, and long- term organisational sustainability. The study is based on both primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data was collected from 160 respondents through structured questionnaires, while secondary data was obtained from academic journals, books, research papers, industry reports, and online publications to provide conceptual and theoretical support to the study. The findings of the research reveal that effective planning and efficient logistics management play a significant role in enhancing operational performance and event outcomes. Proper scheduling, timely resource allocation, clear communication, and strong coordination among stakeholders help minimize operational errors and ensure smooth execution of events. However, the study also identifies several operational challenges faced by event management companies, including poor coordination, last-minute changes, budget limitations, scheduling conflicts, logistics delays, manpower shortages, and ineffective communication among vendors and team members. These challenges directly affect event quality, customer satisfaction, and overall organisational efficiency, making professional operations management an essential requirement for the industry. The study further highlights the growing importance of technology and digital transformation in modern event management practices. The adoption of event management software, automation tools, digital marketing platforms, online registration systems, and real-time communication technologies has significantly improved operational control, productivity, and customer engagement. Technology-driven operational systems help reduce manual errors, improve transparency, and enhance decision-making processes. The research concludes that operations management serves as the backbone of the event management industry by ensuring effective resource utilisation, streamlined workflow management, timely execution, and quality service delivery. Organisations that adopt structured operational strategies and modern technologies are more likely to achieve sustainable growth, operational excellence, and long-term competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving event management market.
KEYWORDS
The study concludes that operations management plays a fundamental and strategic role in determining the success, efficiency, and overall performance of event management practices. In the modern event industry, where customer expectations, competition, and operational complexities are continuously increasing, professional operational management has become essential for ensuring smooth event execution and organizational growth. The research findings indicate that effective planning, efficient logistics management, proper resource allocation, and coordinated execution collectively contribute towards improved operational performance, higher customer satisfaction, and successful event outcomes. Organizations that follow systematic operational procedures are more capable of managing time, costs, risks, and resources efficiently. The findings further confirm that planning and logistics management are the strongest determinants of successful event execution. Proper planning helps event organizations establish clear objectives, coordinate activities effectively, minimize operational risks, and ensure timely completion of tasks. Similarly, efficient logistics management improves transportation, communication, scheduling, and coordination among stakeholders, thereby reducing delays and operational disruptions. The study also highlights the growing importance of technology and digital transformation in the event management industry. The adoption of event management software, automation tools, and digital communication systems has significantly enhanced operational coordination, decision-making, transparency, and execution efficiency. To maintain competitive advantage and achieve long- term sustainability, event organizations must focus on operational excellence, customer-centric management practices, technological integration, and continuous improvement in planning and execution processes.
