- Hospital planning and project management are essential for creating healthcare facilities that are both efficient and sustainable. As patient expectations rise, technologies evolve, and regulations become more complex, managing hospital construction projects has become increasingly challenging. When planning is inadequate or project management is weak, it often leads to higher costs, delays, and a decline in the quality of healthcare services. This review brings together insights from national and international studies, government reports, and academic research to understand what works best, the challenges involved, and their impact on healthcare infrastructure. The study looks at planning approaches such as benchmarking, sensitivity analysis, and forecasting based on past data. It finds that combining structured project management with data-driven planning improves both project execution and operational efficiency. Poorly managed projects can exceed budgets by 10–30% and face delays of over 20%, while effective planning leads to better use of resources and improved patient satisfaction. However, keeping up with rapidly changing technologies and evolving public health needs remains a key challenge. Overall, integrating diverse data sources with strong project management practices is crucial for building flexible and sustainable healthcare infrastructure.
KEYWORDS
The study concludes that effective hospital planning and structured project management are essential for successful healthcare infrastructure development. Proper planning—such as needs assessment, space utilization, and regulatory compliance—combined with project management practices like scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management, improves project efficiency and quality. Despite challenges such as regulatory delays and financial constraints, integrating modern approaches and ensuring stakeholder coordination can enhance hospital performance. Overall, adopting strategic planning and advanced project management techniques leads to sustainable, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare facilities.
