Abstract

Artificial Intelligence has greatly influenced information access and processing in the educational and research sectors. Of the different tools used in artificial intelligence applications, Perplexity AI has been recognized as a fact-oriented search and answer-generating tool that uses large language models and real-time online sources. This research paper aims to analyze Perplexity AI in its conceptual background and mechanism of functions in educational and research work and its applications in diminishing uncertainties of information access. The paper also explains the concept of perplexity as it pertains to the evaluation of inputs in natural language processing (NLP) applications and list the pros and cons of using Perplexity AI over other generative artificial intelligence tools. The paper also explains that while Perplexity AI acts as a productive tool in educational and research work related to literature search and knowledge access and while appreciating its applications in diminishing uncertainties of information access, its applications also need human oversight

Full Article/Conclusion

This study highlights the growing importance of Perplexity AI as an effective research and educational support tool. By combining language models with real-time information retrieval and citations, Perplexity AI addresses key challenges associated with generative AI systems, such as hallucination and lack of transparency. While the tool offers significant benefits in terms of efficiency and accessibility, it should be used as an aid rather than a replacement for human reasoning and scholarly effort. Future research may explore empirical evaluation of Perplexity AI’s accuracy and its long-term impact on learning outcomes.
