The emergence of social media has fundamentally transformed the marketing landscape, particularly within the service sector. Unlike traditional marketing channels that primarily facilitate one-way communication, social media platforms enable interactive, real-time, and customer-centric communication between service providers and consumers. The increasing popularity of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X has significantly influenced customer engagement, brand awareness, customer satisfaction, and service delivery. Service organizations increasingly use social media to build customer relationships, manage brand reputation, facilitate customer support, and generate electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). This study examines the impact of social media on service marketing by exploring its influence on customer engagement, brand equity, customer loyalty, service quality perception, and business performance. The study further discusses opportunities, challenges, and future directions associated with social media-driven service marketing. Findings indicate that social media has become an indispensable strategic tool for service organizations seeking competitive advantage in an increasingly digital environment.
KEYWORDS
Social media has emerged as a transformative force in service marketing, fundamentally altering how organizations communicate, engage, and build relationships with customers. Through interactive communication, customer engagement, electronic word-of-mouth, customer relationship management, and data analytics, social media has become an essential strategic tool for service organizations. The study demonstrates that social media positively influences customer engagement, brand awareness, customer satisfaction, loyalty, and organizational performance. While challenges such as negative reviews, privacy concerns, and information overload remain significant, the benefits of social media far outweigh its limitations. As digital technologies continue to advance, social media will play an increasingly important role in shaping service marketing strategies. Organizations that effectively leverage social media platforms and emerging technologies will be better positioned to create superior customer experiences, strengthen customer relationships, and achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
