Abstract

Stress has become an inseparable part of modern life. Whether it arises from work, academics, family responsibilities, financial concerns, or personal relationships, almost everyone experiences stress at some point. In small amounts, stress can be beneficial, motivating individuals to perform better and respond effectively to challenges. However, when stress becomes frequent or continues for a long period, it can have serious consequences for both physical and mental health. Prolonged stress may lead to anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, cardiovascular problems, reduced productivity, and a decline in overall quality of life. Millions of people across the world experience stress-related psychological and emotional disorders, making stress management an increasingly important public health concern. The causes and effects of stress vary from person to person, depending on individual circumstances, lifestyle, and coping abilities. While some individuals manage stressful situations successfully, others may find it difficult to cope, resulting in emotional exhaustion and reduced well-being. Recognizing the signs of stress and understanding its underlying causes are the first steps toward managing it effectively. Managing stress is not solely an individual's responsibility; it requires support from families, educational institutions, workplaces, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. Creating healthy work environments, promoting mental health awareness, encouraging regular physical activity, and developing effective coping strategies can help individuals build resilience and lead healthier lives. The study emphasizes that stress cannot always be avoided, but it can be managed effectively through awareness, timely intervention, and positive lifestyle choices. By adopting proactive stress management practices, individuals can improve their overall well-being, maintain better mental health, and enhance both their personal and professional lives

Full Article/Conclusion

The primary objective of this study was to examine the level of stress experienced by employees, identify the key factors contributing to workplace stress, evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's stress management initiatives, and recognize the areas that require improvement. The findings reveal that workplace stress is a common issue affecting employees across different departments and levels of experience. Several factors were identified as major sources of stress, including excessive workload, extended working hours, unclear job roles, poor work–life balance, and inadequate support from supervisors, ineffective communication, and concerns about job security. A considerable number of employees reported experiencing work-related stress on a regular basis, with many feeling that their job responsibilities place significant mental and emotional pressure on them. The study also indicates that although the organization has introduced stress management programs, wellness initiatives, and managerial support systems, these efforts have been only moderately effective. While some employees appreciate these initiatives, many believe that additional support and more practical measures are needed to help them cope with workplace stress. Tight deadlines, demanding performance targets, and organizational expectations continue to be major contributors to employee stress. Overall, the study concludes that workplace stress is a complex issue influenced by both organizational policies and employees' day-to-day work experiences. Reducing stress requires a comprehensive approach that includes strengthening stress management programs, encouraging open and effective communication, providing supportive leadership, clarifying job roles and responsibilities, and promoting a healthy work–life balance. By addressing these areas, organizations can improve employee well-being, enhance job satisfaction and productivity, and create a more positive, healthy, and supportive work environment.

References

1.                The higher participation of female employees in the study highlights the importance of developing inclusive workplace policies that support employee well-being. Organizations should provide flexible work arrangements, employee assistance programs, and support mechanisms that address the diverse needs and challenges faced by women in the workplace. 2.                Since a significant proportion of respondents belong to the Finance department, management should pay special attention to stress levels in finance-related roles. The nature of these jobs often involves strict deadlines, high levels of responsibility, and continuous pressure, making regular stress assessments and targeted support essential. 3.                The large number of employees with relatively limited work experience indicates the need for effective on boarding programs, mentoring opportunities, and clear guidance on job responsibilities. Such initiatives can help new employees adapt more quickly and reduce stress during the early stages of their careers. 4.                The finding that many employees experience regular work-related stress and mental pressure emphasizes the need for organizations to actively monitor employee well-being. Regular stress assessments, counselling services, and preventive wellness initiatives can help identify and address stress before it affects employee performance and health. 5.                As heavy workloads, challenging targets, and strict deadlines emerged as major causes of stress, organizations should review work allocation practices, establish realistic performance expectations, and encourage better planning and prioritization of tasks. 6.                The influence of long working hours on employee stress suggests the need for improved time management practices, flexible work schedules where feasible, and organizational policies that discourage excessive overtime while promoting a healthy work–life balance.
