Abstract

In web-based fitness assistant systems, computer vision-based posture detection faces significant challenges during real-time exercise tracking, including body movement variations, poor lighting conditions, and complex viewing positions. To address these problems, we propose an improved fitness monitoring framework, FitPose v1, that builds on the existing MediaPipe and OpenCV technologies. Our method incorporates a new pose-alignment tracking (PAT) module into the processing pipeline, replacing traditional angle estimation techniques to improve body landmark detection and reduce unnecessary computational delays. Additionally, we introduce a motion stability correction (MSC) module to reduce tracking errors during rapid movements and increase sensitivity to different exercise postures and body orientations. To further enhance exercise accuracy and performance efficiency, we introduce a lightweight feedback optimization module (FOM) within the web application that dynamically adjusts posture evaluation to improve real-time activity analysis. Experimental results show that the FitPose v1 model achieves a 1.3% increase in posture detection accuracy and a 2.5% improvement in exercise repetition counting compared to conventional tracking methods, while maintaining smooth real-time performance for low-resource devices. These results demonstrate that FitPose v1 provides fitness assistance for users everywhere.

Full Article/Conclusion

In this paper, we addressed the problem of real-time posture detection and exercise monitoring in web-based fitness systems. We proposed an improved fitness assistant framework, FitPose v1, based on MediaPipe and OpenCV technologies. PAT, MSC, and FOM modules are introduced in the framework to improve body posture understanding and sensitivity to different exercise movements more effectively. Furthermore, compared with traditional posture tracking methods, our framework achieves better posture detection accuracy while still maintaining real-time performance with lower computational complexity. As a result, it is more suitable for deployment in intelligent fitness monitoring systems where devices often have limited computational power and memory resources. Therefore, the proposed framework, FitPose v1, can serve as an efficient and reliable solution for real-time fitness assistance with high accuracy and smooth performance.
