Decision-making problems in engineering, management, and operations research often involve uncertainty and vague information. Traditional optimization techniques struggle to represent such imprecision. This study proposes a hybrid fuzzy optimization framework for solving multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems under uncertain environments. The proposed approach integrates fuzzy set theory with optimization algorithms to evaluate alternatives and determine optimal solutions. A fuzzy membership function is used to model uncertainty in decision parameters, while a multi-objective optimization model identifies the best decision alternatives. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a case study in engineering decision analysis. Results show that the proposed fuzzy optimization model improves decision accuracy and robustness compared to classical deterministic approaches.
KEYWORDS
Fuzzy optimization techniques provide an effective approach for solving complex decision-making problems that involve uncertainty, vagueness, and incomplete information. Unlike classical optimization methods, fuzzy optimization incorporates fuzzy sets and membership functions to represent uncertain parameters more realistically. This allows decision makers to evaluate multiple criteria simultaneously and obtain flexible and reliable solutions. The major advantages of fuzzy optimization include its ability to handle imprecise data, improve decision accuracy, and provide practical solutions in real-world applications such as engineering design, supply chain management, and manufacturing process optimization. The integration of fuzzy logic with advanced optimization techniques also enhances the robustness and adaptability of decision-support systems. For future research, further studies can focus on developing hybrid fuzzy optimization models by integrating fuzzy logic with advanced computational techniques such as genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, and machine learning methods. These hybrid approaches can improve the efficiency and accuracy of solving large-scale and highly complex decision-making problems. Additionally, future work may explore the application of fuzzy optimization in emerging areas such as smart manufacturing, sustainable supply chains, artificial intelligence systems, and real-time decision-support platforms. Such developments will contribute to more intelligent and adaptive optimization frameworks for modern engineering and management applications.
