Abstract

In the era of smart cities and sustainable technologies, the demand for renewable energy solutions is rapidly increasing. In this work, we design and build an IoT‑based piezoelectric walkway that turns the force of human footsteps into usable electrical energy. Piezoelectric discs (PZT‑5) are placed underneath the walking surface so that each step produces a small voltage. This alternating voltage is rectified, filtered and regulated through a buck–boost converter before being stored in a Li-ion battery–supercapacitor hybrid storage unit. An ESP32 microcontroller monitors voltage and current parameters and transmits these values to the Blynk IoT platform, where they can be viewed and controlled from a mobile dashboard in real time. The system achieved a peak voltage of 21.6 V and an overall efficiency of approximately 73%, confirming the feasibility of using piezoelectric materials for micro-energy generation. This paper demonstrates a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution that integrates renewable energy harvesting with IoT-based smart monitoring, suitable for applications in smart walkways, public spaces and low-power IoT devices.

Full Article/Conclusion

This investigation confirms the operational viability of transforming human ambulation-derived mechanical energy into electrical signals via piezoelectric transduction, with subsequent energy conditioning and accumulation within hybrid battery-supercapacitor arrays. The microprocessor architecture successfully executed concurrent functions encompassing instantaneous electrical metric acquisition and bidirectional communication with cloud-based monitoring infrastructure, delivering comprehensive operational transparency.
