The rapid growth of urban populations has led to increased pressure on infrastructure, resources, and services. Smart cities leverage emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), to improve urban efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life. This paper explores the role of AI in transforming urban systems such as transportation, energy management, waste management, and public safety. The study highlight show AI-driven systems enable real-time data analysis, predictive decision-making, and automation in city operations. Applications such as smart traffic management, intelligent, surveillance and energy optimization are discussed in detail. Additionally, challenges such as data privacy, high implementation costs, and technological limitations are analyzed. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for integrated frameworks and policy support to fully realize the potential of AI in building sustainable and efficient smart cities.
KEYWORDS
Artificial Intelligence is a transformative technology that plays a vital role in the development of smart cities. It enhances efficiency, improves resource management, and contributes to sustainability. Applications in transportation, energy, healthcare, and public safety demonstrate its significant impact on urban living. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, data privacy concerns, lack of infrastructure, and technical limitations must be addressed. Governments, organizations, and researchers must collaborate to develop policies, frameworks, and technologies that ensure the effective use of AI. In the future, advancements in AI, combined with IoT and big data, will further enhance smart city capabilities. With proper planning and implementation, AI-driven smart cities can provide a better quality of life, improved sustainability, and a more efficient urban environment.
