Nighttime road accidents are frequently associated with poor visibility and glare produced by high-intensity vehicle headlights. This paper presents an Automatic Light Intensity Controller and Accident Reduction Control Method designed to improve nighttime driving safety through automatic headlight control and accident detection. The proposed system employs an Arduino Uno as the main controller and uses a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) to monitor surrounding light intensity and automatically adjust the vehicle headlight according to environmental conditions. The system also incorporates obstacle detection, a vibration sensor for accident detection, GPS for obtaining vehicle location, and GSM communication for transmitting emergency information. When an accident is detected, the vibration sensor provides an input to the controller, which obtains the location coordinates through the GPS module and sends an alert using the GSM module. The proposed approach reduces the need for manual headlight switching, minimizes glare to oncoming drivers, improves visibility, and provides rapid accident notification. Thus, the developed system provides an economical and practical approach for enhancing vehicle safety and reducing nighttime road accidents.
KEYWORDS
The Arduino-based Automatic Light Intensity Controller and Accident Reduction Control Method provides an integrated approach to improving vehicle safety through adaptive illumination and accident-response mechanisms. By employing an LDR and associated sensors, the system can automatically adjust headlight operation according to changing environmental conditions, thereby improving visibility and minimizing glare. The use of LED headlights also supports energy-efficient operation. The integration of vibration sensing, GPS location tracking, and GSM communication extends the system beyond conventional automatic headlight control by providing accident detection and emergency notification capabilities. The developed approach therefore provides a practical framework for reducing nighttime driving hazards, improving driver comfort, and supporting safer vehicle operation.
