In modern industrial testing environments, accurate measurement, real-time monitoring, and secure storage of instrument data are critical requirements. Manual recording of test results often introduces errors, delays, and inconsistencies in data management. This research presents the design and development of a semi-automated instrumentation and real-time data logging system using LabVIEW for industrial measurement applications. The BGM101 Gaussmeter forms the core of the proposed system, connected to a host computer through a USB-COM port and accessed via a manufacturer-supplied DLL integrated into LabVIEW. Raw magnetic flux readings are processed within LabVIEW to extract DC mean, peak, and range values, which are then written into a MySQL database with automatic timestamps. The developed system eliminates manual logging, improves measurement consistency, reduces operator intervention, and provides a scalable architecture for future industrial automation. Experimental results demonstrate reliable real-time acquisition, visualization, and database storage of measurement parameters, validating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
KEYWORDS
This paper described the design and testing of a semi-automated magnetic field data logging system built around the BGM101 Gaussmeter and LabVIEW. The core contribution is the integration of a proprietary DLL-based instrument interface with a relational database backend — a combination not widely reported in existing literature for this class of instrument. Experimental runs confirmed one-second logging intervals, zero communication failures during testing, and DC mean values stable in the 0.000919 T to 0.000922 T range under consistent field conditions. The MySQL database accumulated records with accurate timestamps throughout, validating the end-to-end data path from instrument probe to stored record. Future work will extend the system to include threshold-based pass/fail logic directly in the LabVIEW VI, automated report generation from the MySQL data, and full deployment of the React operator dashboard on the production floor at Krohne Marshall Pvt. Ltd.
