Abstract

For small and medium logistics providers, Cloud Transportation Management Systems (TMS) have emerged as a significant technological solution to enhance transportation efficiency, operational coordination, and supply chain visibility. This study analyzes the advantages of cloud-based TMS and how it has affected logistics firms with regards to route optimization, shipment tracking, transportation cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. A quantitative survey design is utilized in the research with structured questionnaire responses gained from logistics professionals linked to small and medium enterprises. Results showed that the advantages of cloud-based TMS include enhanced transportation visibility, operational flexibility, communication and delivery efficiencies, decreased manual labor and transportation costs. The study also shows that real-time accessibility, automation, and scalable cloud infrastructure enables improved decision making and boosts logistics competitiveness. While implementation has its challenges, particularly in terms of cybersecurity and the need to train employees, cloud-based TMS presents significant long-term benefits for modern logistics operations.

Full Article/Conclusion

The current study aimed to investigate the pros and cons and the effects of Cloud-based Transportation Management Systems (TMS) in small and medium sized logistics service providers and to explore the relationship between transportation digitization and transportation efficiency, transportation operational coordination, reducing costs, customer satisfaction, and better supply chain performances. The researchers' conclusions reveal that cloud based transportation technologies are undoubtedly very important strategic tools in the modern logistics operations. Most reported that using a cloud-based TMS has a large positive impact on route optimization, shipment visibility, transportation planning, operational flexibility, and delivery coordination, as well as minimizing transportation delays and operational inefficiencies. The investigation also found that cloud-based systems help lower transportation and operational expenses by maximizing fleet utilization, finding better routes, minimizing paperwork, optimizing fuel consumption, and providing centralized transportation management. The study further revealed that real-time tracking and shipment visibility play a role of considerable importance in customer satisfaction and delivery performance, offering delivery transparency and accurate transportation updates. The study also underscores the increasing significance of digital transformation in the logistics and supply chain management sector, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises that are often constrained by financial and technological resources. However, even with its many advantages, there are some implementation issues that persist, such as cybersecurity, employee training, technological adaptation, and implementation costs. These challenges serve as a reminder that any organization implementing a cloud-based TMS solution must be prepared, supported by management and have an awareness of the technology. While the study offers practical insights, the sample size is relatively small and the data gathered relies on questioners. Further studies can build on the study by further increasing the number of samples, areas, introduce comparative research of large logistics companies, and use more advanced statistical methods. Research in the future could focus on how artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, Internet of Things technology, and automation systems are incorporated into cloud-based TMS to further enhance logistics optimization, operational insights, sustainability, and supply chain agility in modern transportation networks.
