The increasing demand for safe and efficient transportation management in educational institutions has led to the development of intelligent vehicle monitoring systems. This paper presents a College Bus Tracking System using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology integrated with IoT-based communication. The proposed system utilizes a GNSS receiver, Arduino Uno R4 Wi-Fi microcontroller, and cloud-based monitoring platform to provide real-time bus location tracking. The system continuously acquires latitude and longitude coordinates from satellites and transmits the information to an online dashboard through wireless communication. Students, parents, and college authorities can monitor the live location, speed, and route status of buses through a user-friendly interface. Experimental results demonstrate location accuracy of 3–5 meters in open environments and reliable real-time tracking capabilities. The system enhances student safety, reduces waiting time, improves route management, and provides an economical solution for educational transportation systems..
KEYWORDS
The college bus tracking system using GNSS successfully met its objective of providing real-time monitoring and management of college transportation. The system combined a GNSS receiver, Arduino Uno R4,and SIM800L GSM module to collect and transmit live bus location data to a central server. The system achieved an average positioning accuracy of 3-5 meters in open areas and 10-15 meters in urban or obstructed regions. The live location, speed, route, and estimated arrival time (ETA) were displayed on a monitoring platform for students and administrators. Geofencing features accurately detected when the bus entered or exited designated zones, improving safety and scheduling efficiency. Data transmission was mostly stable, with occasional delays due to poor network connectivity. Overall, the system performed efficiently, providing reliable and accurate tracking information throughout testing. The project demonstrated that GNSS-based tracking is a cost-effective, user-friendly, and practical solution for enhancing college bus safety, improving punctuality, and optimizing fleet management. This system can be further enhanced with advanced filtering, better antenna placement, and mobile app integration for real-time user access.
