A comparative study of structural design (by staadpro software) of two storeyed residential building in earthquake zone II and V has been done. A two storeyed residential building has been taken for comparison. The building consists of two floors (Ground floor and first floor). The ground floor consists of verandah, drawing room, dining hall, kitchen, one bedroom, two toilets and a staircase. The first floor consists of two balconies, three bedrooms, three toilets, a study room and staircase. The second floor will be terrace floor with mumty for staircase. The structure of the building has been analysed using the staadpro software of version STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition V22. Two models of the same building have been developed. One model has been analysed for earthquake zone II and second model has been analysed for earthquake zone V. A comparative study of the design results of beams and columns has been made. A summary conclusion has been arrived at.
KEYWORDS
1. Reinforcement required for the building in zone II is always less that the reinforcement requirement for the building in zone V. 2. Minimum ratio of reinforcements required for columns from footing to ground level is 4.94 and maximum ratio is 11.59. 3. Minimum ratio of reinforcements required for Columns from ground level to first floor level is 5.75 and maximum ratio is 14.18. 4. Minimum ratio of reinforcements required for Columns from first floor level to second floor level is 3.07 and maximum ratio is 11.99. 5. Minimum ratio of reinforcements required for columns from second floor level to mumty roof level is 3.47 and maximum ratio is 10.58. 6. Ratio of zone factor is 3.60. But ratios of reinforcements are not in the same pattern. Hence any rational conclusion could not be made.
