A conversational assistant is an intelligent conversational computing system designed to mimic human speech to provide automated online guidance and support. The growing benefits of conversational support have led to widespread adoption across many industries to provide virtual support to their customers. Conversation assistance uses methods and algorithms from his two fields of artificial intelligence: natural language processing and machine learning. However, the application has many challenges and limitations. This research reviews recent advances in conversation support using artificial intelligence and natural language processing. We highlight the main challenges and limitations of the current work and provide recommendations for future research investigations.
