The rapid growth of urban populations has severely intensified vehicular parking challenges, leading to extreme traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and inefficient land utilization. Traditional parking systems rely on manual management or static, non-scalable infrastructures that fail to capture real-time occupancy. To resolve this imbalance, this paper presents “Park Edge,” an intelligent, cloud-centric, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) parking management and reservation system. By integrating low-cost IoT edge hardware—powered by ESP32 microcontrollers, infrared (IR), and ultrasonic sensors—with a scalable Google Firebase cloud backend, the system enables real-time slot tracking and instant updates. A cross-platform mobile client built with Google’s Flutter framework provides drivers with direct routing, secure advance reservation, and integrated cashless payments via the Razorpay API, while allowing private space owners to easily monetize underutilized land. We present complete mathematical models and state transition algorithms for real-time occupancy detection, vehicle egress/movement, Dijkstra’s shortest path routing within structured parking lanes, and transaction-locked reservation safety. Performance evaluations demonstrate an edge-to-cloud sync latency of under 2 seconds, high sensor accuracy of over 94.7%, and reliable prevention of duplicate booking conflicts, validating its suitability for modern smart city infrastructures.

This paper presented “Park Edge,” a unified, real-time peer-to-peer (P2P) parking management and reservation system. By integrating an ESP32-based hardware sensing layer with a scalable Google Firebase cloud backend, the system enables real-time slot tracking and updates with very low latency. A cross-platform mobile application built with the Flutter framework provides drivers with direct routing and secure, conflict-free advance reservations. Complete mathematical models and state transition algorithms were formulated to ensure reliable occupancy detection, shortest-path lane routing, and secure cashless payments. Performance evaluations confirm high detection accuracy (94.7%) and fast edge-to-cloud sync times (< 2 seconds), establishing the system as a highly practical, secure, and scalable solution for modern smart city infrastructures. In future work, we plan to extend the platform by integrating AI-driven demand forecasting models to support dynamic pricing. We also aim to add automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) using camera feeds, and support for dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging slots to further enhance urban mobility.
