The use of highly sophisticated wheelchairs is one of the major steps in the integration of people with severe physical disabilities. Driving a wheelchair in a home environment is difficult even for the average person and it is even more difficult for people with a leg disability. To improve user engagement, the system incorporates manual touch controls as an add-on to the wheelchair controls. Details were presented regarding the mechanical design, electrical and control system of the smart wheelchair.
