Abstract

Computers, smartphones, and internet-connected devices have become central to modern life and business. Device and network security aim to protect these systems from malicious actors and ensure that data remains confidential, intact, and available. This overview explains key security concepts, common threats, and modern defence strategies, including zero-trust, IoT, and cloud-related risks. The goal is to provide a structured foundation for deeper study and practical implementation, focusing on how organisations and individuals can reduce security incidents through layered controls and good practices.

Full Article/Conclusion

Device and network security are tightly linked. Weak endpoints can undermine strong network defences, and weak network design can expose otherwise hardened devices. Effective protection therefore requires a holistic approach combining device hardening, secure network architecture, continuous monitoring, and user awareness. As technology evolves with IoT, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, the threat landscape will keep changing. However, core principles such as least privilege, defense in depth, strong authentication, and careful risk management will remain relevant. Applying these principles systematically can significantly reduce both the likelihood and the impact of securityincidents.
