- Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common and severe complications of diabetes mellitus, leading to irreversible vision loss if not diagnosed at an early stage .Traditional manual screening methods are time consuming, error-prone, and require expert ophthalmologists. To overcome these challenges, this project proposes an automated system for the detection and classification of Diabetic Retinopathy using deep learning and image processing techniques. Retinal fundus images are pre-processed and analyzed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to identify abnormal features such as microaneurysms, hemorrhages, and exudates. The system provides accurate and reliable predictions, thereby assisting doctors in early diagnosis and treatment. This approach not only reduces the burden on healthcare professionals but also offers a cost effective, scalable solution for large-scale screening, ultimately helping to prevent blindness in diabetic patients.
KEYWORDS
Diabetic Retinopathy is a leading cause of preventable blindness, and its early detection is essential for saving vision. Traditional manual diagnosis is time-consuming and prone to human error, highlighting the need for automated solutions. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) provide a powerful deep learning approach for analyzing retinal images, detecting abnormalities, and classifying the severity of DR with high accuracy. The proposed web-based system makes screening faster, more reliable, and accessible, supporting ophthalmologists in clinical decision-making while improving patient care. With further advancements and integration into healthcare systems, CNN-based DR detection can significantly reduce diabetes-related vision loss worldwide
