The increasing cost of educational resources such as textbooks, handwritten notes, digital gadgets, and study ma-terials creates significant financial difficulties for many students pursuing higher education. Although different online market-places are available today across various platforms, most of these systems are developed for general product exchange and do not specifically support the unique needs of academic com-munities. A substantial number of useful educational products remain completely unused after semester completion even though they can still provide tremendous value to other students beginning similar courses. This paper presents StudentMart, a compre-hensive student-focused digital marketplace developed specif-ically for buying and selling educational products online in a secure environment. The proposed system is developed using modern MERN stack technologies including MongoDB for flexible data stor-age, ExpressJS for robust backend API development, Reac-tJS for responsive frontend interface, and NodeJS for efficient server-side runtime execution. The system provides essential marketplace functionalities including user authentication, prod-uct listing and management, category-based filtering, and shop-ping cart management. The platform also includes a personalized wishlist feature that allows users to save interesting products for future pur-chases. Direct buyer-seller communication is enabled through integrated WhatsApp messaging. The system aims to encour-age affordable access to essential academic resources and pro-mote sustainable reuse of educational materials among student communities.
KEYWORDS
StudentMart successfully provides a dedicated digital market-place for students to buy and sell educational products. The platform operates in a secure and trusted environment that pri-oritizes user safety. It addresses the key challenges faced by students in accessing affordable academic resources. The system creates a peer-to-peer exchange ecosystem tai-lored to academic needs. Features include subject categoriza-tion, semester-based filtering, and student identity verification. The platform includes comprehensive product listing with de-tailed descriptions and multiple images. Intelligent category filtering uses academic parameters in-cluding subject, course code, and price range. The wishlist fea-ture allows saving interesting items for future reference. Com-plete shopping cart functionality enables multiple purchases with quantity selection. WhatsApp-based buyer-seller communication enables direct interaction. This facilitates product condition discussion, pric-ing negotiation, and delivery coordination. The strategic use of the modern MERN stack ensures excellent scalability and high performance. The proposed system promotes sustainable reuse of edu-cational materials across student communities. This reduces waste and environmental impact while helping students save money. Studies suggest potential savings of forty to sixty per-cent on textbook costs [10, 14, 13].
