Effect of Air Pollution on Rainfall Considering Changing Climate

Air pollution increases largely from human activities, poses a significant threat to Earth’s climate system. This review aims to provide a concise summary of the effects of air pollution on Climate Change. Firstly, air pollutants such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) trap heat in the atmosphere, leading to Global Warming. This warming exacerbates climate change by melting polar ice caps, raising sea levels, and intensifying extreme weather events. Additionally, air pollutants like sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) contribute to the formation of aerosols, which can either cool or warm the atmosphere depending on their composition and location. These aerosols further complicate climate dynamics. Air pollution impacts the Earth’s radiation balance by altering the reflectivity of surfaces, known as albedo. Furthermore, the impacts of air pollution on climate change have far-reaching social and economic implications. In the present study an attempt is made to find out the effect of changing climate on rainfall in India from year 1901 to 2015. Consequently, addressing air pollution becomes not only an environmental imperative but also a matter of social justice and equity, requiring holistic strategies that prioritize both environmental and human well-being.
