Abstract

In the contemporary digital marketplace, content marketing has emerged as one of the most transformative strategies for building brand awareness, fostering customer engagement, and influencing purchase behaviour. This study investigates the effectiveness of content marketing among digital consumers in Hyderabad, Telangana, with specific focus on content format preferences, platform utilisation patterns, and the influence of content quality on consumer purchase decisions. Using a descriptive research design, primary data were collected from 100 respondents through a structured online survey questionnaire, supplemented by secondary data from marketing journals, industry reports, and digital marketing research publications. Percentage analysis and tabular presentation are employed as primary analytical tools. The findings reveal that 85% of respondents are aware of content marketing practices; video content is the most preferred format (40%), followed by social media posts (25%), blogs (20%), and infographics (15%). Instagram (35%) and YouTube (30%) emerge as the most influential platforms for content dissemination. Critically, 75% of respondents agree or strongly agree that quality content influences their purchasing decisions, underscoring the commercial significance of strategic content creation. The study provides actionable insights grounded in the Content Marketing framework and the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) of persuasion, with implications for marketing practitioners, digital entrepreneurs, and academic researchers in the Indian business context.

Full Article/Conclusion

This study examined the effectiveness of content marketing in enhancing brand awareness and customer engagement among 100 digital consumers in Hyderabad, Telangana. The key findings are as follows: •  Consumer awareness of content marketing is high (85%), indicating a digitally literate and content-receptive population in Hyderabad. •  Video content is the most preferred format (40%), followed by social media posts (25%), blogs (20%), and infographics (15%), confirming the visual-first nature of modern digital content consumption. •  Seventy-five percent of respondents report that quality content influences their purchase decisions, establishing content marketing as a direct commercial conversion tool — not merely a brand-building instrument. •  Instagram (35%) and YouTube (30%) together account for 65% of platform effectiveness endorsements, confirming their primacy as content marketing channels for the Indian urban consumer market. •  Consistent, high-quality, and platform-appropriate content is identified as the primary driver of customer trust, engagement, and brand loyalty. From a theoretical perspective, this study validates the applicability of the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) to content marketing effectiveness in the Indian digital context, while also contributing empirical data to the growing body of India-specific digital marketing literature. The study's findings demonstrate that content marketing in India has progressed beyond its experimental phase to become a mainstream, commercially significant marketing strategy. The practical recommendations arising from this study include: (i) businesses should prioritise video production and optimise content for Instagram and YouTube; (ii) content strategies should be audience-segmented, with regional language content for non-English speaking consumer segments; (iii) content quality should be measured through engagement metrics (shares, saves, comments) rather than vanity metrics (likes, impressions) to accurately assess commercial effectiveness; (iv) businesses should invest in content calendars and consistent publishing schedules, as content marketing effectiveness compounds over time; and (v) analytics tools (Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, YouTube Studio) should be integrated into content strategies to enable data-driven optimisation. Future research should employ larger, stratified samples to enable subgroup comparisons by age, income, occupation, and educational background. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) could be employed to establish causal pathways between content format preferences, platform engagement, and purchase decisions. Longitudinal studies tracking changes in content marketing effectiveness over time would further enrich the academic understanding of this rapidly evolving field. Research specifically examining the effectiveness of regional language content marketing in Telangana's Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities represents a particularly valuable and underexplored avenue for future scholarship.
