Abstract—The Indian banking industry has experienced tremendous change as a result of digitalization and advances in technology. In order to ensure effective, safe, and client-focused services, CBS has become highly important in helping the banks achieve their objectives. Finacle, which was developed by Infosys, is one such system that has gained prominence in facilitating digital banking in India. This research deals with four major banks using Finacle as their core banking system, namely State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank. The source of data in this research has been taken from secondary sources such as annual reports, RBI sources, Infosys Finacle reports, and other research journals between the period of 2020–2024. Several methods of analysis such as Ratio Analysis, Trend Analysis, Growth Rate Analysis, Comparative Analysis, Correlation Analysis, and Stability Analysis have been used. According to the findings, the use of Finacle has brought a significant improvement in the performance of banks through real-time transactions, better customer experiences, facilitation of digital payments, and efficient operations. The research proves that Finacle is an important tool for speeding up the digital revolution, and consequently, making Indian banks more competitive.
KEYWORDS
This study presents empirical evidence that Infosys Finacle functions as a substantive catalyst for next-generation digital banking in India, with measurable positive impacts on financial performance across the four major sampled banks. The convergence of findings across six analytical methods—ratio analysis, trend analysis, growth rate analysis, comparative analysis, correlation analysis, and stability analysis—consistently confirms that deeper digital banking integration, anchored by a robust CBS platform, is associated with improved profitability, enhanced operational efficiency, and greater performance consistency. HDFC Bank's combination of high average ROA, low Cost-to-Income Ratio, and minimal ROA variability establishes it as the performance leader in the digitally mature CBS segment, while ICICI Bank's continuous ROA improvement trajectory demonstrates the compounding returns on sustained technology investment. SBI's progress confirms that even large-scale public sector institutions can capture tangible financial benefits from digital transformation, albeit with greater structural constraints. Axis Bank's high volatility underlines the importance of integrated financial risk management alongside CBS adoption. The moderate positive Pearson correlation (r = 0.39) between digital adoption and ROA provides statistically grounded evidence for the technology–performance nexus, while appropriately acknowledging that banking profitability is a multi-causal phenomenon. The study's findings carry practical implications for bank management in prioritising digital investment allocation, for policymakers in designing enabling regulatory frameworks, and for technology providers in calibrating CBS roadmaps to address the specific performance gaps identified across institution types. Future research should extend this framework to a larger panel of CBS-differentiated banks, incorporate transaction-volume and customer-satisfaction metrics, and explore the moderating effects of bank size, ownership structure, and regulatory environment on the digital-performance relationship.
