Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) are extensively used in industrial automation, electric transportation systems, robotics, aerospace applications, and renewable energy systems because of their high efficiency, compact design, superior power density, and fast dynamic response. Accurate rotor position estimation is an essential requirement for efficient PMSM drive control. Rotor position information is necessary for proper inverter switching synchronization, vector control implementation, and stable motor operation. Conventional position sensing devices such as encoders and resolvers provide high accuracy but increase system complexity and implementation cost. This paper presents Hall sensor based rotor position estimation for PMSM drive systems using MATLAB/Simulink environment. Hall sensors are integrated with a voltage source inverter and control system to identify rotor sectors and generate synchronized switching pulses. The proposed system uses Hall sensor signals for rotor position detection and inverter commutation control. The developed MATLAB/Simulink model is analyzed under various operating conditions to evaluate Hall sensor outputs, switching sequence characteristics, stator current behavior, inverter pulse generation, and PMSM dynamic response.
KEYWORDS
This paper presented Hall sensor based rotor position estimation for PMSM drives using MATLAB/Simulink environment. The developed model successfully identified rotor sectors and generated synchronized inverter switching pulses. Hall sensors provided reliable rotor position feedback with reduced system complexity and lower implementation cost. The integration of SVPWM improved inverter efficiency and minimized harmonic distortion. Simulation results verified stable motor operation, balanced current characteristics, smooth speed response, and efficient inverter synchronization. The proposed PMSM drive system provides a reliable and economical solution for modern industrial motor control applications
