Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly being recognized as an effective solution for reducing environmental pollution caused by the transportation sector, which is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Unlike conventional petrol and diesel vehicles, EVs operate without emitting harmful exhaust gases, thereby improving air quality and supporting global efforts to combat climate change. In addition, EVs reduce dependence on fossil fuels and encourage the transition toward cleaner energy systems. However, the environmental sustainability of EVs largely depends on the source of electricity used for charging. When powered by renewable energy sources such as solar or wind energy, EVs provide greater environmental benefits. At the same time, battery manufacturing and disposal present environmental challenges due to mining activities and the need for effective recycling systems. From an economic perspective, the expansion of the EV sector can stimulate industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products. Although the initial purchase cost of EVs is relatively high, long-term savings can be achieved through lower fuel and maintenance expenses. Nevertheless, issues such as inadequate charging infrastructure and dependence on rare raw materials continue to hinder large-scale adoption. Overall, electric vehicles have considerable potential to support sustainable transportation. However, their long-term success depends on supportive government policies, technological advancements, improved infrastructure, and the wider use of renewable energy sources.
KEYWORDS
The study explored public awareness, adoption patterns, environmental influence, and economic effects related to electric vehicles. The findings reveal that many respondents are aware of the advantages associated with EVs, particularly regarding environmental protection and long-term economic benefits. Younger participants showed comparatively higher interest in electric vehicles because of their attraction toward modern technology and sustainable transportation solutions. Although public opinion toward EVs is largely positive, the actual adoption rate remains limited. Respondents identified several barriers that discourage widespread usage, including high purchase costs, insufficient charging infrastructure, limited driving range, and concerns regarding battery durability. The study suggests that awareness alone may not significantly increase adoption unless these practical difficulties are addressed. The research also indicates that electric vehicles may support cleaner transportation, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and encourage sustainable development. Improvements in charging networks, supportive government policies, financial incentives, and advancements in battery technology could encourage greater EV adoption in the future. These developments may contribute toward a more environmentally friendly and economically beneficial transportation system.
