Internet of Things (IoT) can be defined as the interconnectivity of different devices over internet. IoT is based on the use of internet through cellular systems. With increasing number of users, increasing bandwidth requirement due to multimedia and big data applications, IoT systems based on cellular systems are getting heavily loaded. The reason for this is the fact that data is sent through the base station (BS). Hence a new type of technology called Device to Device (D2D) communication has become an active area of research in IoT based applications. In this case, data is shared between devices directly without involving the base station. The proposed work investigates different parameters viz. outage probability and optimum distance based on which one can switch from D2D mode to cellular mode and vice versa for maintaining satisfactory Quality of Service (QoS).
