The truth about the insurance sector is that it is a crucial support system for the entire global economy in that it serves as a hedge against any kind of instability in finances for all individuals and companies. The problem that exists in this particular industry is that of smart fraud in claims within this industry meaning that it is a multi-billion-dollar problem. The traditional fashion of fighting such frauds which is based on formal rules and human-level analyses of such threats is becoming increasingly obsolete. Being too slow in identifying non-linear frauds is a major weakness in this case. Specifically the project application titled 'Intelligence-Driven Insurance Claim Fraud Detection' intends to develop an intelligent fully automated system for the detection of fraud using sophisticated Machine Learning techniques. Unlike other available systems that focus only on the symptoms of the fraud element the proposed innovation will apply an arsenal of learning techniques such as Random Forest Classifiers Decision Tree Classifiers and Logistic Regression Models. This will allow the system to analyze a huge amount of available data that may target the discovery of inconsistencies such as demographic and claim patterns.
KEYWORDS
"Insurance Claim Fraud Detection" is a conclusive proof of concept for high-intelligence analytics incorporation in the financial services domain as a whole. In fact the success of this project in shifting its primary operation mode from the traditional manual heuristic audit approach to an active analytics-driven approach is a viable antidote to the ubiquitous problems of fiscal leakage and stagnation. Project Achievements and Technical Efficacy The architecture thus developed was able to showcase a strong capability of handling high-dimensional real-world datasets. The architecture underwent a comprehensive life cycle of refinement of the data using a Random Forest ensemble to achieve a highly sophisticated trade-off of Sensitivity (Recall) and Predictive Precision. In the evaluation phase it is ensured that the model is not "memorizing" past records and is actually detecting the "behavioral markers" associated with fraudulent activity. Thus it is ensured that the system is an efficient deterrent even as the actions associated with fraudulent records are thwarted thus resulting in the "false alarm" rate that is characteristic of rule-based filters being minimized.
