Subject: International Conference on Inherited Cardiac Conditions: Comprehensive View Point of a Public Health Professional
Last week, I got an incredible opportunity to participate at “The Kauvery International Conference on Inherited Cardiac Conditions 2025” held at the Welcomhotel by ITC, Chennai organized by the Kauvery Hospital.
I got to learn about the current trends seen globally in relation to different cardiac conditions, with an in-depth understanding of the Long QT Syndrome, Brugada Syndrome and rare genetic anomalies like the DiGeorge Syndrome. There were several eminent professionals from the field of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery who shared their valuable insights on management of these conditions emphasising on screening, use of pharmacotherapy and by surgery, along with the use of LVLAD (left ventricular assist device); which I could highly appreciate as a Public Health professional as they also gave a sneak peak of the way ahead. This is so because cardiac conditions are increasing in the young which has also been a focus during the conference regarding which there needs to be an increase in awareness in the general population; along with the Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death syndrome (SUNDS) especially common in the South East Asia.
Notably, a tribute was paid to Dr K.M. Cherian who is widely regarded as the “Father of Indian Cardiac Surgery”. He was instrumental in shaping the present day Cardiac Surgery in India. He had performed India's first coronary artery bypass surgery in 1975. He was also an Alumni of MAHE, Manipal; like me to my delight.
I felt privileged to be a part of the conference and also contribute to it --being the “ 1st International Conference” that I have attended.
With regards,
Dr. K.Savitha
