The rapid growth of inverter-based power sources such as solar photovoltaic systems and backup inverters has introduced new safety challenges in electrical power distribution networks. One major concern is the flow of reverse current from consumerside inverters back into the distribution line, even after the main grid supply is disconnected. This condition poses a serious risk to linemen performing maintenance and repair work, as the line may remain unintentionally energized. This paper presents a protection system titled “Lineman Safety Through Inverter Reverse Current Protection”, which aims to prevent such hazardous situations. The proposed system detects reverse current flow and uses a contactor-based mechanism to automatically isolate the supply line. ThisRensures that the power line remains completelyde-energized beforemaintenance begins. The system is simple, reliable, and cost-effective, making it suitable for domestic, commercial, and industrial applications. The implemention of this system can significantly reduces electrical accident and improve overall safety and reliability in power distribution system. The proposed system significantly improves operational safety, reduces workplace accidents, and enhances the reliability of power distribution networks. By addressing the growing challenges posed by inverter-based resources, thisproject contributes to creating a safer working environment for linemen and supports the modernization of electrical protection systems.
KEYWORDS
The project “Lineman Safety Through Inverter Reverse Current Protection” provides an effective solution to protect linemen from electric shock hazards caused by reverse current flow from inverter-based systems. By using a contactor and reverse current detection circuit, the system ensures complete disconnection of supply lines before maintenance work begins. This greatly enhances safety, reduces the risk of accidents, and improves reliability in power distribution networks. The proposed system is simple, low-cost, and highly beneficial for ensuring the safety of maintenance personnel in both domestic and industrial power systems.
