The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, particularly solar photovoltaic and wind energy systems, into the power grid, has brought significant benefits in terms of sustainability and reduced carbon emissions. However, these sources also introduce challenges related to power quality, voltage stability, frequency fluctuations, and reactive power management. This literature review examines the key integration challenges associated with solar PV and wind energy systems, focusing on voltage and frequency fluctuations, harmonic distortions, voltage sags and flicker, and reactive power management. Various mitigation strategies, including energy storage systems, advanced control techniques, grid code compliance, and power electronics-based solutions, are explored. The review highlights the need for further research in developing more efficient inverters, real-time monitoring systems, and hybrid solutions to enhance the resilience and stability of modern power grids.
KEYWORDS
The integration of solar PV and wind energy into power grids enhances sustainability but introduces power quality challenges. This review outlined key issues, including voltage instability, frequency fluctuations, and reactive power imbalances, along with mitigation strategies such as AI-driven control, advanced inverters, and FACTS devices. Future research should focus on: Enhancing AI-driven grid management for real-time power quality improvement. Developing more efficient energy storage solutions to stabilize voltage and frequency fluctuations. Optimizing power electronics interfaces to minimize harmonics and improve grid stability. By leveraging advanced control strategies and regulatory frameworks, the seamless integration of renewable energy sources can be ensured, leading to a more stable and resilient power system.
