This project explores the application of data science techniques to analyse and predict mobile phone sales trends. With the rapid growth of the of the smartphone industry and increasing consumer choices, understanding sales patterns has become essential for manufacture, retailers, and marketers to make informed business decisions. The study involves collecting historical sale data along with relevant feature such as brand, price, range, specification (RAM, storage, camera, battery), customer rating, and seasonal trends. Exploratory data analysis (EDA) is performed to identify key factors infusing sales performance, followed by data preprocessing technique including handling missing values, incoding categorical variables, and feature scaling.
KEYWORDS
This project applied data science and machine learning to analyse mobile phone sales data and predict future sales trends. Among the models tested, XGBoost and Random Forest outperformed Linear Regression and Decision Tree by better capturing non-linear relationships between features like price, specifications, brand, and ratings.
[1] Data collection – historical sales, phone specs (RAM, ROM, camera, battery, price), brand, ratings, reviews, seasonality/marketing data. [2] Preprocessing – handle missing values, encode categorical, address class imbalance (e.g., SMOTE) if predicting sales tiers rather than continuous units.
