The Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana (CMYKPY), launched by the Maharashtra Government in August 2024, is a flagship skill-development and internship project intended to improve the employability of unemployed youth aged 18–35. The program offers six months of on-the-job training with a monthly stipend of ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 depending on educational qualification. The paper examines the scheme’s aims and coverage from the perspective of student beneficiaries, and evaluates its impact on skill enhancement & employability.

The CMYKPY scheme is a revolutionary step in the Maharashtra’s journey to equip its youth with the hands-on skills, monetary assistance and professional exposure required to succeed in the competitive job market of today. The plan seeks to bridge the skill and financial gaps that limit young people’s access to quality internship opportunities by providing a combination of on-the-job training, financial support and government accreditation. However, the issue like no guaranteed work and the possibility of a digital divide, overall CMYKPY’s framework and scope provide a blueprint for other states to improve youth employability through public-private partnerships. As explained in this paper, a rigorous mixed-methods research methodology can provide the evidence base to refine the scheme regularly and ensure that it lives up to its promise of developing a talented, confident and employable generation of Maharashtrian youth.
