The respiratory rate is a crucial physiological indicator that reflects the state of the human respiratory system and general health. Irregular respiratory rates can signal serious health issues early on, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea, and respiratory infections. Consequently, it is essential to monitor respiratory rates continuously and accurately in medical and healthcare settings. Traditional methods for measuring respiratory
KEYWORDS
The project “Respiratory Rate Detection Using Chest Expansion”successfully demonstrates a non-invasive, low-cost, and reliable method for monitoring human respiratory rate. By detecting the natural expansion and contraction of the chest during breathing, the system is able to calculate respiratory rate accurately in real-time. The use of sensors, signal conditioning, and microcontroller processing ensures precise measurement and display of breaths per minute. The system is portable, easy to use, and suitable for continuous monitoring, making it ideal for hospitals, home healthcare, elderly care, and fitness applications. Optional IoT integration allows remote monitoring, further enhancing its usefulness in modern healthcare systems. Overall, the project provides a practical solution to overcome the limitations of traditional respiratory monitoring methods and has the potential for future enhancements, including wearable devices and AI-based abnormal breathing detection.
