Fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) have become widely used in the aerospace and naval industries over the past few decades. They haven’t been applied widely yet because they are more expensive than typical Civil Engineering materials like steel or concrete. However, advancements in our understanding of their limitations and potential uses in construction have resulted in a rise in the use of structural retrofitting. Fibre reinforced polymers seem to be an affordable, effective, and especially time-saving alternative to other retrofit solutions for structures that are in poor condition or need to be able to withstand greater loads than they were originally designed for. This paper presents an experimental study on reinforced concrete beams retrofitted with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) externally. The objective of this study is to investigate the improvement of beams after retrofitting using CFRP and GFRP wrapping.
