Worker safety in industrial and hazardous environments is a critical challenge due to the increasing number of workplace accidents caused by negligence, improper safety practices, and delayed supervision. Traditional safety monitoring methods mainly depend on manual observation, which is time-consuming, less efficient, and prone to human error. To address these issues, this paper proposes an AI-Based Industrial Worker Health and Safety Monitoring System that provides automated real-time monitoring of workers using computer vision and intelligent alert mechanisms. The proposed system is designed to detect whether industrial workers are wearing essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety helmets and safety vests, through continuous video monitoring using a camera-based system. The captured video frames are processed using computer vision and object detection techniques to identify workers and analyze their compliance with industrial safety regulations. In the current prototype stage, the system uses a laptop camera for real-time monitoring and testing purposes, making the implementation cost-effective and easy to deploy. The system also includes a Hazard Zone Detection Module that monitors restricted or dangerous areas inside industrial environments. Whenever a worker enters a hazardous zone without authorization or safety compliance, the system immediately triggers a siren alert to warn the worker and surrounding personnel, thereby helping prevent accidents and injuries. In addition, an automated Email Notification Module is integrated into the system, which sends alert messages to the manager or supervisor whenever safety violations are detected, such as absence of helmets or safety vests. This enables faster response and effective monitoring without continuous manual supervision. The proposed solution combines automation, artificial intelligence, and real-time surveillance to improve industrial safety standards and reduce workplace risks. The system is designed as a low-cost and scalable prototype that can be further enhanced using advanced deep learning algorithms, IoT sensors, cloud computing, and CCTV integration for deployment in large-scale industrial environments. The overall objective of the project is to create a smart industrial safety monitoring framework that enhances worker protection, improves compliance with safety regulations, and minimizes accident risks in hazardous workplaces.
KEYWORDS
In this project, an AI-Based Industrial Worker Health and Safety Monitoring System has been proposed using Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence technologies. The system was developed to improve workplace safety by continuously monitoring industrial workers and detecting safety violations in real time. The proposed framework uses a camera-based monitoring system to detect workers and identify whether mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as helmets and safety vests are being used properly. The system also includes a Hazard Zone Monitoring feature that detects unauthorized worker entry into dangerous or restricted industrial areas. Whenever safety violations are detected, the system activates a siren alert and automatically sends email notifications to the manager or supervisor for immediate action. The implementation demonstrated that the proposed system can effectively reduce dependency on manual supervision and provide an efficient automated solution for industrial safety management. The preprocessing and object detection modules helped improve monitoring accuracy and real-time detection performance under different environmental conditions. Compared to traditional manual monitoring systems, the proposed framework provides a smarter, faster and more cost-effective approach for workplace safety monitoring. The developed prototype also shows strong potential for future implementation in smart industries and Industry 4.0 environments. Overall, the proposed Industrial Worker Health and Safety Monitoring System contributes toward improving worker protection, reducing accident risks and enhancing industrial automation using Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and intelligent alert mechanisms
