Abstract

Sales forecasting is a critical function in business operations as it directly impacts inventory management, supply chain planning, marketing strategies, and financial decision- making. Conventional forecasting approaches based on statis- tical assumptions and historical averages often fail to respond effectively to rapidly changing market conditions, seasonal fluc- tuations, and regional demand variations. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a cloud-based sales forecast- ing system using machine learning techniques. Historical sales data is collected and preprocessed to handle missing values, remove inconsistencies, and extract relevant temporal features. Linear Regression and Random Forest Regression models are trained and evaluated using performance metrics such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and R² score. The best-performing model is deployed through a Streamlit-based web application on the cloud, allowing users to generate real-time sales predictions through an interactive interface. Experimental results indicate that Random Forest Regression achieves higher accuracy and robustness compared to Linear Regression, particularly in handling non-linear sales patterns. The proposed system demonstrates practical applicabil- ity for real-world business forecasting by combining predictive accuracy with scalable cloud deployment.

Full Article/Conclusion

This study developed a cloud-based sales forecasting system using machine learning models. Experimental results show that Random Forest Regression performs better than Linear Regression in predicting sales with higher accuracy under changing and non-linear demand conditions. The cloud-based implementation allows users to obtain real-time predictions through a simple web interface. Hence, the proposed system can effectively support business planning and sales decision- making.
