ABSTRACT

The purpose of the current study is to investigate the theoretical relation of self objectification and need for approval among college students. Western society has placed great expectations among young adults of an unstable approval seeking model where everyone is under the pressure of body consciousness and social desirability. The social and cultural oppression compels the person to squeeze into the “ideal” person which is unattainable. The expectations from people are expressed both subtlety and explicitly creating more reasons to objectify students. Since the perpetuating factors continue to rise, the need for approval among the college students also grows at a high speed.

The study would conclude the prevalence of self objectification and need for approval among college students. Understanding the prevalence of self objectification and social desirability would help in understanding the insights into the reasons for such behaviour.
