Abstract

Smart crime forecasting plays a significant role in improving urban safety by using advanced machine learning techniques to predict criminal activities and support effective policing strategies. As cities continue to grow rapidly and urbanization increases, maintaining public safety has become a major challenge for law enforcement agencies. Traditional crime prediction methods are often limited because they cannot efficiently process and analyze massive amounts of crime-related data or identify hidden patterns within criminal behavior. To overcome these limitations, smart crime forecasting systems use machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to analyze historical crime records and predict future criminal incidents. These algorithms are capable of discovering complex relationships between crime trends and various influencing factors, leading to more accurate and reliable predictions.

Full Article/Conclusion

The proposed smart crime forecasting system can be further enhanced by integrating real-time data sources such as IoT sensors, CCTV surveillance feeds, and social media analytics to improve prediction accuracy and responsiveness. Advanced deep learning models, including hybrid architectures combining LSTM with Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), can be explored to capture complex spatial-temporal crime patterns more effectively. Additionally, incorporating explainable AI (XAI) techniques would increase transparency and trust for law enforcement agencies. The system can also be extended with a cloud-based scalable infrastructure and mobile applications to provide real-time alerts and decision support to police personnel. Furthermore, the inclusion of geospatial visualization tools and predictive dashboards will aid in better interpretation of crime hotspots, ultimately enabling proactive policing and smarter urban safety management.
