Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is widely used as an alternative automotive fuel because of its comparatively clean combustion characteristics and suitability for transportation applications. Since CNG is stored at high pressure, the integrity of cylinders, valves, pipelines, fittings and associated components is critical for vehicle safety. Periodic inspection and testing are therefore essential for identifying leakage, deformation, corrosion and other defects. This research paper presents a case study of Vijaya CNG Hydro Testing Services, Ahilyanagar, focusing on CNG cylinder testing, leakage detection, visual inspection and safety practices. The study describes the general sequence of CNG cylinder inspection, preparation, hydrostatic testing, drying, visual examination, leakage checking and certification. The paper also discusses common leakage locations such as valves, threaded connections, O-rings, hoses and fittings. Hydrostatic testing is an important method used to assess the integrity of pressure vessels. The study proposes a systematic testing and quality-control approach consisting of identification, visual inspection, preparation, controlled testing, leakage inspection, drying, dimensional examination and documentation. The research emphasizes that testing must be conducted by authorized personnel using appropriate procedures and equipment, with safety controls suitable for high-pressure gas systems.
KEYWORDS
This research paper presents a study of CNG cylinder testing and leakage detection with reference to Vijaya CNG Hydro Testing Services, Ahilyanagar. CNG cylinders and associated high-pressure components require systematic inspection because their safe operation depends on structural integrity and leak-free connections. Visual inspection, hydrostatic testing, leakage detection and final documentation are important components of a reliable testing system. The study demonstrates that quality and safety can be improved through standardized testing procedures, calibrated equipment, systematic leakage inspection, operator training, preventive maintenance and proper traceability. Future research can use actual industrial data to analyze cylinder rejection, leakage frequency, test failures, repair requirements and process efficiency. Such quantitative analysis would strengthen the industrial case study and provide measurable evidence for quality improvement.
