Weed infestation is a major challenge in agriculture, as it competes with crops for nutrients, water, and sunlight, leading to reduced yield and increased production costs. Traditional weed detection methods rely on manual field inspection, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and often inaccurate. To address these limitations, this project proposes an image-based weed detection system using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques. The proposed system analyzes crop field images captured using standard cameras or mobile devices. Image preprocessing and deep learning models, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), are used to automatically identify and classify weeds from crops with high accuracy. the system remains cost-effective, easy to deploy, and suitableforsmall-and medium-scale farmers.
KEYWORDS
This project presents an intelligent AI and Machine Learning–based weed detection system that effectively addresses key challenges in modern agriculture. By using image-based analysis, the system accurately distinguishes weeds from crops without relying on specialized hardware orIoT devices. The proposed approach reduces manual effort, minimizes unnecessary herbicide usage, and supports precision farming practices. Its scalable design allows deployment across different crop types and field conditions. The system operates efficiently on standard hardware, making it accessible to farmers with limited resources. Reliable detection and clear result visualization enhance usability and decision-making. Overall, the system contributes to sustainable agriculture by improving crop productivity and promoting environmentally responsible weed management.
