Abstract

Workplace stress has emerged as a significant organizational issue, particularly in the private insurance sector, where sales personnel are exposed to demanding sales targets, competitive work environments, and performance-based evaluation systems. This study examines the factors influencing workplace stress among sales personnel employed in private insurance companies in Bagalkote District, Karnataka. The study aims to identify the major causes of workplace stress, assess the influence of demographic factors on stress, and analyze the impact of organizational stress factors on employees' overall workplace stress. A descriptive research design was adopted, and primary data were collected from 143 sales personnel using a structured questionnaire. Secondary data were obtained from books, journals, and published research articles. Statistical tools including descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were employed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The findings reveal that workload and sales targets, organizational policies and procedures, management support and supervision, performance appraisal and incentives, and job security and career growth significantly influence workplace stress among sales personnel. Furthermore, gender and monthly income showed a significant association with workplace stress, whereas age, work experience, and type of insurance did not exhibit significant differences. The study concludes that organizations should implement effective stress management practices, supportive leadership, transparent appraisal systems, and employee-friendly policies to reduce workplace stress and improve employee well-being, job satisfaction, and organizational performance.
