Abstract

The financial system is one of the most important components of a modern economy. It acts as a mechanism through which savings are mobilized and allocated toward productive investments. A strong and efficient financial system contributes significantly to economic growth, industrial expansion, employment generation, capital formation, infrastructure development, and improvement in the standard of living. It facilitates the flow of funds between individuals, businesses, financial institutions, and governments, thereby ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources. In every economy, individuals generate income through employment, business activities, or professional services. A portion of this income is generally saved for future needs such as education, retirement, healthcare, housing, emergencies, and wealth creation. These savings, when properly invested through the financial system, become a source of capital for economic development. Therefore, investment planning has become an essential aspect of modern financial management. Over the years, the financial sector has evolved significantly due to globalization, technological advancements, economic reforms, and changing investor preferences. Traditional saving methods such as bank deposits, gold investments, and real estate are now being supplemented by market-linked investment avenues that offer higher return potential and better wealth creation opportunities. As a result, individuals are increasingly exploring diversified investment products available in financial markets. The rapid growth of financial markets has increased the availability of investment alternatives such as stocks, bonds, debentures, derivatives, exchange-traded funds, pension products, insurance policies, and mutual funds. While these products provide numerous opportunities for investors, they also involve varying degrees of risk, complexity, and market uncertainty. Consequently, investors are often required to make informed and strategic financial decisions to achieve their financial goals effectively.

Full Article/Conclusion

The present study was conducted to examine the role of financial advisors in mutual fund selection and to understand the extent to which investors rely on professional guidance while making investment decisions. The mutual fund industry has experienced significant growth in recent years due to increasing investor awareness, rising financial literacy, technological advancements, and the growing need for effective financial planning. However, the availability of numerous mutual fund schemes often makes investment selection a challenging task for investors. The findings of the study indicate that financial advisors play an important role in simplifying the mutual fund selection process and helping investors make informed investment decisions. A large proportion of respondents acknowledged the value of professional guidance, particularly in understanding investment risks, evaluating fund performance, and selecting schemes aligned with their financial goals. The study further revealed that investors primarily seek financial advisory services for expert guidance, risk assessment, and portfolio management. Knowledge and expertise emerged as the most important qualities expected from financial advisors. The findings also indicate that recommendations provided by financial advisors have a moderate to high influence on investor decision-making. Another important observation from the study is that most respondents believe financial advisors recommend mutual funds according to individual financial objectives and provide adequate information regarding investment risks. Regular interaction between investors and advisors further contributes to effective portfolio monitoring and long-term financial planning. The overall level of investor satisfaction with financial advisory services was found to be positive. Most respondents expressed satisfaction with the services received and indicated a willingness to recommend financial advisors to others for mutual fund investments. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that financial advisors continue to play a significant role in the mutual fund industry by improving investor awareness, facilitating informed decision-making, and supporting investors in achieving their financial goals through appropriate investment planning and mutual fund selection.
