Abstract

Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) is one of the most significant mechanisms introduced under the Income-tax Act, 1961 to ensure timely collection of tax and improve tax compliance in India. Instead of collecting taxes only at the end of the financial year, the Government introduced the TDS system whereby tax is deducted at the source of income itself. This mechanism not only guarantees continuous revenue to the Government but also minimizes tax evasion and enhances financial transparency. The present research entitled "An Analytical Study of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) with Reference to Vishal Chand Jain Chartered Accountants" aims to examine the practical implementation of TDS provisions in a professional Chartered Accountant firm. The study analyses the role of the firm in assisting clients with TDS deduction, deposit, return filing, reconciliation of Form 26AS, generation of Form 16 and Form 16A, compliance with statutory provisions and advisory services. The study adopts a descriptive research design based on secondary data collected from the Income-tax Act, 1961, Finance Act, CBDT notifications, official government portals, books, journals and reports. The study also incorporates practical observations relating to TDS compliance activities undertaken by Vishal Chand Jain Chartered Accountants. The research identifies that TDS has become an effective compliance mechanism for ensuring timely tax collection, promoting voluntary tax compliance, improving accountability among taxpayers and strengthening financial governance. Digital initiatives such as TRACES, Annual Information Statement (AIS), Form 26AS and online TDS return filing have significantly simplified compliance procedures and reduced errors in tax administration. The study concludes that Chartered Accountant firms play a crucial role in ensuring proper implementation of TDS provisions and bridging the gap between taxpayers and the Income Tax Department. The research further suggests that continuous technological reforms, awareness programs and simplification of compliance procedures can further enhance the effectiveness of the TDS system in India.
