This study explores the powerful influence of cinema on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, focusing on actor Vijay’s recent entry into electoral politics and the rise of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Tamil Nadu has a unique political culture where film stars often transition into political leaders, shaping public opinion and voter behavior. Vijay, known for his social messages in films and massive fan following, launched TVK in February 2024, aiming to bring social justice, transparency, and youth participation into politics. The research examines how Vijay’s popularity, social media influence, and fan organizations have helped build a support base, especially among young voters. It also analyzes the opportunities and challenges faced by TVK, such as organizational strength, ideological clarity, and long-term sustainability. The study highlights the growing role of celebrity politics, youth mobilization, and digital campaigns in transforming electoral dynamics in Tamil Nadu. While Vijay’s entry signifies a new era of entertainment-driven politics, it also raises questions about the future of personality-based politics and governance. The findings suggest that if TVK can develop strong organizational structures and focus on transparent, inclusive policies, it has the potential to shape Tamil Nadu’s democratic future positively. Overall, the research underscores the evolving relationship between cinema, social media, and politics in Tamil Nadu, offering insights into the changing nature of democratic participation in the state. In this regard, the research explores the important and dynamic challenges affecting the modern globally integrated world.

The entry of Vijay into Tamil Nadu’s political landscape marks a significant shift driven by the powerful influence of cinema, social media, and youth participation. His transition from a popular film star to a political leader exemplifies how celebrity culture continues to shape democratic processes in the state. Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), reflects a new political movement that combines entertainment, social justice, welfare, and development priorities. This movement has mobilized young voters and fan organizations, creating a fresh alternative to traditional parties like DMK and AIADMK. While Vijay’s popularity offers promising opportunities for political change, challenges remain in transforming this celebrity-driven support into a strong, organized, and credible political force. The party needs to focus on building organizational capacity, promoting transparent governance, and fostering internal democracy to sustain long-term growth. The integration of digital media and youth engagement strategies can further strengthen the party’s influence. Overall, Vijay’s political journey illustrates the evolving nature of Tamil Nadu’s democracy, where cinema and social media play vital roles in shaping electoral behavior and political discourse. If Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam can address its organizational weaknesses and develop clear policies, it has the potential to contribute meaningfully to Tamil Nadu’s political future. This new wave of celebrity politics, combined with a focus on social welfare and youth involvement, can lead to a more vibrant and participative democratic environment in Tamil Nadu.
